My name is Kyla Sims and I am the owner of Spot Organics. I create organic remedy products for dogs. I know it’s crazy… that’s what everyone always says. They say “what?” and “how did you get into that?” Well back in 2000 my dog developed severe allergies and I had no idea what to do. I took her to the vet and he told me to switch her to a lamb and rice food, it was probably an allergy to beef, he says. So I switched her and still the hair loss, irritated skin, and constant scratching continued. I started to do research on canine allergies and started studying canine nutrition. I began baking organic dog treats for Sasha, she loved them! I decided to start selling these treats at local craft fares and after a few successful shows I decided to start a real business.
Paws-itively Natural was born in 2002. The only problem was I really hated baking. I had also just started looking for natural products I could use on Sasha’s skin, I didn’t want any chemicals in the products. It had to be 100% natural.
Well I came up empty handed. There was however a human hemp shampoo bar that I thought would be great for a dog’s skin. I knew about how rich hemp seed oil was in omega fatty acids. I thought how good it would be to put it directly onto the skin instead of putting it in their food where it has to travel all through the body. So I began to research aromatherapy for scents for our hemp shampoos and I discovered the world of aromatherapy. I realized that there was so much more to aromatherapy than just good smells. The oils can heal, treat, prevent almost anything you can think of from physical to mental ailments. I was blown away! I thought about all of Sasha’s ailments and how I could make natural stuff to help her.
That all lead me to start Spot Organics. I thought if I could help my dog then there were other dogs that I could help. It is very rewarding for me when I here customers telling me that our products really helped their dog. That is the reason for all of this and to of course make a decent living while doing what I love.
